Digital nudity recognition is being used by Instagram, detecting and deleting images
inappropriate for it's users. Instagram's guidelines claims to allow nudity in the form of art.
In the past however, Instagram's software mistook images of cakes, identifying them as nudity.
How free is Instagram truly regarding artistic expression? What is artistic nudity? Is
pornography a form of art or not? How does one categorize nudity? How does this technology
categorize nudity?
To answer these questions, random images of the internet were fed to an artificial intelligence
software claiming to detect nudity. Surprisingly, images of rosettes stuck on a horse's head,
dandelions, rasters and cake decorations were identified as nudity. This image research was
transformed into a wearable piece and presented at the Clash show during Fashionclash Festival
2017.
